In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Chandigarh administration sounded a fresh air raid siren on Friday. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid balconies.
An official statement from the administration noted, “An air warning has been received from the Air Force Station regarding a possible attack. Sirens are being sounded, and all are urged to stay inside and avoid balconies.” About an hour later, the administration declared that the siren alert had ended.
Precautionary Measures Across Neighboring Districts
Following the alert in Chandigarh, nearby districts also took precautions. In Panchkula, the district administration activated a similar siren and urged residents to stay indoors.
In Mohali, which borders Chandigarh, authorities advised residents in bordering sectors to stay indoors and avoid windows and glass. A statement from the Mohali administration said, “There is an alert in some areas of Chandigarh, and we urge residents near the border to stay indoors and keep away from windows.”
The Patiala district administration issued a similar advisory, encouraging residents to stay calm and avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary. They also confirmed that all educational institutions in the district would remain closed until further notice. People were asked to stay indoors, particularly avoiding balconies, rooftops, and open areas.
Past Night’s Air Raid Siren and Recent Defense Actions
A similar air siren had sounded in Chandigarh on Thursday night following Pakistan’s attempts to target military sites in India using drones and missiles. The Indian Armed Forces successfully thwarted these attempts in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.
The defense ministry revealed that Pakistan made attempts to target multiple cities across northern and western India, including Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, among others. These attempts came shortly after India launched Operation Sindoor, striking terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
In light of the situation, authorities continue to urge citizens to stay vigilant and follow official advisories to ensure their safety.
