Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that he will visit India later this year, following a virtual conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Musk described the interaction as an “honour” and emphasized his excitement about India’s potential in technology, space, and sustainable innovation.
Strengthening India-US Tech Collaboration
Prime Minister Modi shared details of their discussion on X (formerly Twitter), saying,
“Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year.”
He added that both sides explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in technology, mobility, space innovation, and AI. The conversation builds on their meeting during Modi’s US visit in February, where Musk was accompanied by his three children.
Starlink’s Progress in India
The announcement comes amid SpaceX’s Starlink seeking final regulatory approvals to launch satellite internet services in India. The company is working with major telecom firms like Jio and Airtel.
Earlier this week, Starlink executives Chad Gibbs and Ryan Goodnight met with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss domestic operations, investments, and regulatory pathways. Goyal shared:
“Met a delegation from @Starlink… Discussions covered their cutting-edge platform, current partnerships, and investment plans.”
Global Impact and Future Plans
Musk, one of the most influential tech entrepreneurs globally, also holds an advisory role in the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which focuses on reducing government spending and optimizing operations.
His visit is seen as a significant step toward Tesla’s India launch and expanded cooperation in clean energy and digital infrastructure.
