Multiple District Courts Put on High Alert
District courts in parts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh were evacuated on Thursday after receiving anonymous bomb threat emails, prompting large-scale security operations and temporary suspension of judicial work.
Authorities said the threats were taken seriously, leading to immediate evacuations and thorough checks by police, bomb disposal squads, and dog units.
Threat Emails Sent to Courts in Chhattisgarh
Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Bilaspur Affected
According to officials, threatening emails were sent to the official email IDs of district courts in Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Bilaspur.
In Rajnandgaon, the alert was received at around 10:07 am, warning of a suicide attack involving an RDX-based explosive device. The message reportedly asked judges to vacate the court premises within hours.
Following the alert:
- The district administration initiated an immediate evacuation
- The Collector and Superintendent of Police supervised the operation
- Bomb disposal and canine squads conducted detailed searches
After extensive checks, officials confirmed that no explosives or suspicious materials were found.
Similar safety measures were taken in Durg and Bilaspur, where court complexes were cleared and searched. Authorities later confirmed that these threats were also hoaxes.
Chief Minister Assures Public of Safety
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai urged citizens not to panic, stating that the state’s police force is fully equipped and alert to handle such situations.
Rewa District Court Evacuated in Madhya Pradesh
Threat Mentions RDX Explosion
In Madhya Pradesh, panic briefly gripped the newly constructed Rewa District Court complex after an anonymous email was received around 8:30 am at the official email ID of the District and Sessions Judge.
The email claimed that the court would be blown up by 2:30 pm using RDX explosives.
Acting on directions from the High Court, and with approval from the District Judge:
- Judges, lawyers, court staff, and visitors were safely evacuated
- Bomb disposal teams and sniffer dogs searched the entire complex
- The operation continued for several hours
Officials confirmed that no suspicious objects were found during the search.
Cyber Police Begin Investigation
Rewa City Superintendent of Police Rajiv Pathak said early inputs suggest the email may have originated from southern India. The cyber crime unit has been assigned to trace the sender and identify those responsible.
Similar Threats Reported in Other States
Authorities noted that district courts in Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh also received similar bomb threat emails on the same day. This has raised concerns about a coordinated hoax campaign aimed at disrupting court proceedings and spreading fear.
Officials also recalled that ordnance factories in Itarsi had previously received similar threats on two separate occasions.
Investigations Ongoing Nationwide
Security agencies across affected states are jointly investigating the incidents to determine the source, intent, and motive behind the emails. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
