Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called on the public to back the BJP mayoral candidate Kalpana Devlal and other councilor candidates in the upcoming Pithoragarh municipal elections, scheduled for January 23, 2025.
BJP’s Vision for Pithoragarh
Addressing a public gathering, CM Dhami outlined the BJP’s plan to transform Pithoragarh into a model city, focusing on:
- Planned development for modernization.
- Promoting a clean and green environment.
He emphasized the need for a “double-engine government”, stating that such a governance model would accelerate Pithoragarh’s growth and help achieve its transformation into an exemplary city.
Tough Stance on Social Issues
Referring to the recent “spit jihad” incident in Bageshwar, CM Dhami assured strict action against those involved.
“Our government prioritizes cleanliness and will not tolerate practices like spit jihad. Offenders will face strict consequences,” he affirmed.
Criticism of Congress
The Chief Minister accused the Congress party of turning Uttarakhand into a “hub of land jihad” for political advantages, alleging:
- Appeasement politics for vote banks.
- Disrespect toward Hindu values and Ram Temple construction.
CM Dhami claimed the Congress party is divided in Pithoragarh and urged citizens to vote for BJP to ensure development and progress.
Government Action Against Illegal Land Acquisitions
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to transparency, CM Dhami revealed that the government is actively addressing 750 illegal land purchase cases. This move reflects the state’s dedication to fairness and law enforcement.
Public Response and Youth Participation
The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from the public, especially youth, who raised slogans in support of the Chief Minister. CM Dhami temporarily paused his speech to acknowledge the crowd’s enthusiasm and requested calm before continuing.
Significance of Pithoragarh Civic Polls
The Pithoragarh municipal elections are considered a critical test of the BJP’s governance agenda and its focus on development, law enforcement, and environmental sustainability.
