At least six schools in Delhi received a bomb threat on Friday, marking the second such incident within the past week. Schools including Delhi Public School (East of Kailash), Salwan School, Modern School, and Cambridge School were among those targeted.
Bomb Threat Details
The threatening email claimed there were “several explosives” planted on the schools’ premises. It alleged that a “secret dark web group” was behind the planned bombings. The email also stated, “I am sure you all do not check students’ bags frequently when they enter the school premises. The bombs are powerful enough to destroy the buildings and harm people.” It further warned that the bombs could detonate on December 13 and 14, coinciding with parent-teacher meetings in some schools. The sender demanded a response to the email to outline their demands.
Precautionary Measures
In response, authorities have sent students home and alerted guardians, advising them not to send children to school. Bomb detection teams, including dog squads, are on-site, and the Delhi Police is investigating the IP address linked to the email.
Police and Fire Department Response
Officials from the fire department, police, and bomb detection teams have already visited the schools to conduct thorough checks. As of now, no suspicious items have been found, and police are continuing their investigation into the email’s origin.
Previous Bomb Threat
This is the second bomb threat to Delhi schools this week. On December 9, more than 40 schools received a similar bomb threat via email, which was later declared a hoax by the police. The previous email claimed that “multiple small bombs” were planted in the schools and demanded $30,000 to defuse them. However, no explosives were found, and the police dismissed the threat as a hoax.
Political Reactions
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal condemned the repeated bomb threats, calling them “extremely serious and worrying.” He expressed concern over the impact of such threats on students’ safety and education.
This ongoing situation has raised significant concerns about the safety of students and the need for enhanced security measures at educational institutions.
